NRSWA Streetworks Training Kent

NRSWA Units 1 & 2 Training in Kent

Kent Training provides NRSWA Streetworks Units 1 & 2 training for operatives who need the knowledge and practical skills to work safely around underground apparatus and to set out signing, lighting and guarding for street works.

Under the current English Street Works qualification structure, the certificates commonly referred to as Units 1 and 2 are LA – Location & Avoidance of Underground Apparatus and O1 – Signing, Lighting & Guarding.

The course combines classroom learning with practical exercises and assessment, helping candidates understand how to identify buried services, use locating equipment correctly and establish a safe temporary streetworks site for road users, pedestrians and the workforce.

Our Basic course covers the two main entry certificates: LA, which is common to both the Operative and Supervisor routes, and O1 – Signing, Lighting & Guarding. Candidates who carry out excavation and reinstatement work can then progress to O2–O5 and O8, or the corresponding Supervisor route.

LA and O1 are the two key operative certificates. Operatives carrying out excavation or reinstatement must also hold the relevant additional O-series certificate for the activity being undertaken.

What are NRSWA Streetworks Units 1 & 2 called now?

In England, the current certificate codes are LA – Location & Avoidance of Underground Apparatus and O1 – Signing, Lighting & Guarding. These are commonly referred to as the old Units 1 and 2.

How long is the combined Units 1 & 2 course?

The combined Kent Training programme is typically delivered over two days and includes training plus the required theory and practical assessment elements.

Who needs LA and O1?

LA and O1 are the two key operative certificates in the English Street Works qualification structure. Operatives who also excavate or reinstate the highway need the relevant additional O-series certificates for those activities.

Does this course qualify me to excavate the highway?

Not by itself. LA and O1 are the key operative certificates, but excavation requires the appropriate additional operative certificate, such as O2 for excavation in the highway.
