Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need experience to take the NPORS 360 Excavator course?

No. Kent Training offers a novice route for candidates with no previous experience, an Experienced Worker Test for established operators and refresher training for existing operators.

What is the NPORS N202 qualification?

NPORS N202 is the recognised plant-operator category for 360-degree excavators. It assesses the knowledge and practical ability required to operate tracked or wheeled 360 excavators safely.

How long does NPORS 360 Excavator training take?

Typical duration is 5–10 days for a novice operator, approximately 2.5 hours for an Experienced Worker Test and one day for refresher training. The final duration depends on experience, delegate numbers and assessment requirements.

Is the NPORS card recognised on construction sites?

Yes. NPORS certification is widely recognised throughout the UK. Operators may also work towards NPORS and CSCS card routes where these are required for site access.

Can the training be completed at our site?

Yes. On-site training can be delivered using your own suitable excavator and working area, subject to equipment, site and safety requirements.

What does the practical assessment involve?

The practical assessment covers inspections, safe travel and manoeuvring, excavation, trenching, backfilling, levelling, loading operations, stability awareness and safe shutdown procedures.

Does the course cover tracked and wheeled excavators?

The NPORS N202 category can cover tracked or wheeled 360-degree excavators. The exact machine used and any category restrictions should be confirmed when booking.

What PPE is required?

Candidates should normally bring safety boots, high-visibility clothing and any other PPE required by the training site. Specific requirements will be confirmed before the course.

How long are NPORS Operator Cards valid?

It depends on the registration route. The NPORS/CSCS Red Trained Operator Card is valid for two years while the operator works towards the relevant NVQ/SVQ. The NPORS/CSCS Blue Competent Operator Card is valid for five years. Traditional NPORS registrations are separate from the construction-card route.

What happens after I pass?

Successful candidates receive an NPORS Operator Card as recognised evidence of competence. Further familiarisation may still be required when changing machine size, type, attachment or working environment.

What is the NPORS/CSCS Construction Package?

It is an optional managed package for candidates who need the construction-card route. Kent Training arranges and pays for the CITB HS&E test at an external authorised test centre, manages the booking administration and supports the NPORS/CSCS registration pathway after successful NPORS training and assessment.

Do I need a separate CSCS classroom course?

No separate CSCS classroom course is required for the NPORS/CSCS Trained Operator route. New entrants undertake the normal NPORS training and testing and must also satisfy the Health, Safety & Environment touchscreen-test requirement.

Does the £100 package guarantee I will receive a Red card?

No. The package covers the CITB HS&E test fee, booking service and NPORS/CSCS pathway administration. Card issue remains subject to passing the appropriate HS&E test, passing the NPORS assessment and meeting NPORS registration requirements.

Where do I take the CITB HS&E test?

Kent Training books the CITB HS&E test on your behalf, but the test is taken at an external authorised test centre. Kent Training is not CITB.
