Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NPORS N010 Telehandler qualification?

The NPORS N010 qualification assesses the knowledge and practical competence required to safely operate a telehandler in accordance with recognised industry standards.

Is NPORS recognised throughout the UK?

Yes. NPORS is one of the UK's leading plant machinery accreditation schemes and is widely recognised across construction, civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure and many large organisations.

Do I need previous experience?

No. Kent Training offers novice courses for complete beginners, experienced worker assessments for established operators and refresher training for candidates who need to renew or update their skills.

How long does the NPORS Telehandler course take?

Typical duration is up to five days for a novice course, approximately 2.5 hours for an Experienced Worker Test (EWT) and one day for a refresher course. The correct route depends on the candidate's experience and current operating competence.

How long are NPORS Operator Cards valid?

It depends on the registration route. The NPORS/CSCS Red Trained Operator Card is valid for two years while the operator works towards the relevant NVQ/SVQ. The NPORS/CSCS Blue Competent Operator Card is valid for five years. Traditional NPORS registrations are separate from the construction-card route.

Can businesses arrange on-site training?

Yes. Kent Training can deliver NPORS Telehandler training at customer premises using the employer's own suitable equipment, subject to site and machine requirements.

What PPE should I bring?

Delegates should wear suitable PPE including safety boots, high-visibility clothing and any other site-specific protective equipment advised before the course.

Can I operate different sizes of telehandler after completing the course?

The course covers the relevant category of telehandler. Your instructor will explain any limitations and any additional familiarisation or training required for different machines, boom configurations or attachments.

What qualification will I receive?

Successful candidates are registered through the appropriate NPORS route. For construction, eligible new entrants without the relevant NVQ/SVQ can follow the NPORS/CSCS Red Trained Operator Card route. Candidates using the machine outside construction may use the NPORS Traditional registration route.

What does the NPORS assessment involve?

Delegates complete both a theory assessment and a practical operating assessment to demonstrate safe machine operation, load handling, stability awareness, inspections and shutdown procedures.

What is the NPORS/CSCS Construction Package?

It is an optional managed package for candidates who need the construction-card route. Kent Training arranges and pays for the CITB HS&E test at an external authorised test centre, manages the booking administration and supports the NPORS/CSCS registration pathway after successful NPORS training and assessment.

Do I need a separate CSCS classroom course?

No separate CSCS classroom course is required for the NPORS/CSCS Trained Operator route. New entrants undertake the normal NPORS training and testing, and must also satisfy the Health, Safety & Environment touchscreen-test requirement.

Does the £100 package guarantee I will receive a Red card?

No. The package covers the CITB HS&E test fee, booking service and NPORS/CSCS pathway administration. Card issue remains subject to passing the appropriate HS&E test, passing the NPORS assessment and meeting NPORS registration requirements.

Where do I take the CITB HS&E test?

Kent Training books the CITB HS&E test on your behalf, but the test is taken at an external authorised test centre. Kent Training is not CITB.
